Overview
J-FR-MC-R242403 is a flame-retardant modacrylic/cotton fabric developed for protective trousers, coveralls and other specialised workwear. Its modacrylic/cotton blend incorporates carbon fibre for antistatic performance, providing a material option for protective garments where multiple workplace hazards need to be considered.
The fabric has documented test results covering heat and flame protection, welding-related hazards, electric arc performance and electrostatic properties. Selected performance tests also include industrial laundering conditions, while a tested high-visibility yellow option supports additional garment development requirements.
Performance & Standards
The following results summarise selected third-party fabric tests covering flame and heat protection, welding-related hazards, electric arc performance, electrostatic properties and limited liquid chemical penetration. Full technical reports and test conditions are available upon request.
Key Test Results
| Performance Area | Standard / Test Method | Reported Result |
|---|---|---|
| Limited flame spread | EN ISO 15025:2016 | A1 + A2 |
| Heat and flame protection | EN ISO 11612:2015 | A1 + A2, B1, C1, F1 |
| Welding-related protection tests | EN ISO 11611:2015 | Class 1 |
| Electric arc box test | IEC 61482-2:2020 (TDS reference) | APC 2 |
| Arc thermal performance | IEC 61482-1-1:2019 | ATPV 14 cal/cm²; ELIM 12.2 cal/cm² |
| Electrostatic performance | EN 1149-3:2004 | Charge decay half-time: t50 < 0.01 s; shielding factor: 0.7 |
| Limited liquid chemical penetration | EN ISO 6530:2005 | Index 3 (30% H₂SO₄, 10% NaOH); Index 1 (o-xylene); Index 2 (butan-1-ol) |
| High-visibility yellow colour performance | EN ISO 20471:2013 (TDS reference) | PASS for tested HV Yellow configuration |
Testing Notes
Selected flame, heat, arc and electrostatic tests reference 25 industrial laundering cycles at 60°C under ISO 15797. The limited liquid chemical penetration tests reference five laundering cycles at 75°C. Test conditions vary by performance area.
Reported results apply to the tested fabric configurations and do not independently establish finished-garment certification. Performance may vary by fabric article and colour. Contact JOY for the full technical data sheet and relevant test documentation.
Applications
Potential Applications
- Flame-Retardant Work Trousers: For protective workwear programmes requiring fabric evaluation against flame and heat exposure hazards.
- Multi-Norm Protective Coveralls: For coverall development where flame resistance, electrostatic properties and electric arc performance need to be considered together.
- High-Visibility Protective Workwear: For protective garment development using the tested high-visibility yellow fabric configuration, subject to finished-garment visibility requirements.
Material Selection Considerations
Fabric selection should consider the intended workplace hazards, garment construction, required protection levels, colour configuration and laundering conditions. The documented test results provide a basis for material evaluation, while compliance of the finished garment must be assessed separately
