Overview
Developed for protective outerwear, this two-layer flame-retardant fabric combines a polyester/carbon outer material with a visible anti-static dobby grid and a PU membrane. The construction is intended for workwear applications where electrostatic performance, resistance to wet conditions and limited flame spread are relevant material selection considerations.
At approximately 210 gsm, the fabric offers a relatively lightweight option within JOY P&D’s protective fabric range. Its reported performance covers water penetration resistance, water vapour resistance and selected protective properties, helping buyers evaluate its suitability for protective jackets and rainwear. Final garment performance depends on the complete design and applicable testing requirements.
Performance & Standards
This two-layer flame-retardant protective fabric has been internally tested for limited flame spread, electrostatic properties, resistance to water penetration, water vapour resistance and selected liquid chemical exposure. High-visibility colour performance has also been assessed for specified yellow and orange samples.
Key Test Results
| Standard | Performance Area | Reported Result |
|---|---|---|
| EN ISO 14116:2015 | Limited flame spread, inner surface | Index 1 |
| EN 1149-5:2018 / EN 1149-3:2004 | Electrostatic properties | Charge decay half-time t50 < 0.01 s; shielding factor S = 0.85; reported PASS |
| EN 343:2019 | Resistance to water penetration | Class 4; >20,000 Pa, including after 15 washing cycles and specified conditioning |
| EN 343:2019 | Water vapour resistance | Class 3; Ret < 25 m²·Pa/W |
| EN 13034:2005+A1:2009 / EN ISO 6530:2005 | Selected liquid chemical tests | Index 3 reported for 30% sulfuric acid, 10% sodium hydroxide, o-xylene and 1-butanol |
| EN ISO 20471:2013 | High-visibility colour performance | Reported PASS for tested HV yellow and HV orange samples |
| RIS-3279-TOM:2016 | Railway high-visibility orange | Reported PASS for tested HV orange sample |
Testing Notes
All results are taken from JOY P&D’s technical specification issued on 20 March 2026 and are identified as internal test data. Many reported tests used 15 washing cycles as pretreatment, while some dimensional-change tests used five cycles. Results may vary between fabric articles, colours and production lots.
High-visibility results apply only to the tested colours. The listed liquid chemical tests do not establish broad chemical protection. Fabric-level results do not constitute certification of a finished garment; suitability must be assessed against the intended use, garment construction and applicable requirements.
Applications
Potential Applications
- Protective Rainwear and Jackets — Outerwear developed for wet working conditions where water resistance, moisture management and selected protective properties are relevant.
- Flame-Retardant Protective Outerwear — Garments requiring consideration of limited flame spread performance, subject to the applicable hazard assessment and garment-level requirements.
- Anti-Static Workwear Outer Layers — Protective clothing applications where electrostatic performance is an important material selection criterion.
- High-Visibility Protective Outerwear — Jackets and rainwear using the tested high-visibility yellow or orange colourways, subject to finished-garment design and compliance assessment.
Material Selection Considerations
This fabric should be evaluated against the intended working environment and the complete garment design. Its reported limited flame spread performance is EN ISO 14116 Index 1 on the inner surface; it should not be assumed suitable for higher-level heat, welding or electric arc hazards. High-visibility results are colour-specific, and chemical testing covers only selected substances. Buyers should confirm the relevant requirements and request supporting test evidence before final specification.
