Overview

J-FR SOFTSHELL OPT C is a three-layer flame-retardant softshell fabric developed for protective outerwear requiring consideration of multiple workplace hazards. Its construction combines a polyester outer surface, PU membrane and flame-retardant inner layer to support specialised workwear development.

The fabric offers documented performance across heat and flame, electric arc, electrostatic and limited chemical splash testing, with selected results evaluated after industrial laundering. High-visibility colour options are also available for protective garment programmes with additional visibility requirements.

Performance & Standards

The following results summarise selected third-party fabric test findings. Refer to the full technical documentation for test conditions, methods and report details.

Key Test Results

Electrostatic performance EN 1149-3:2004 Charge decay half-time: t50 < 0.01 s; shielding factor: 0.8
Limited liquid chemical penetration EN ISO 6530:2005 Penetration index P3 for the four tested chemicals
High-visibility colour performance EN ISO 20471:2013 Reported as PASS for tested yellow, orange and red variants

Testing Notes

Selected performance tests were conducted following 25 industrial laundering cycles at 75°C under ISO 15797. Other tests may use different pre-treatment conditions.

Results apply to the tested fabric configurations and do not establish finished-garment certification. Full technical documentation is available upon request.

Applications

Potential Applications

  • Multi-Norm Protective Jackets: For protective outerwear programmes requiring evaluation against multiple workplace hazards.
  • Arc-Rated Protective Outerwear: For garment development where electric arc performance is a key material selection criterion.
  • High-Visibility Protective Workwear: For protective jackets using the tested high-visibility yellow, orange or red fabric variants.
  • Welding and Heat-Exposure Workwear: For applications requiring evaluation of flame spread, radiant heat and molten metal splash performance.

Material Selection Considerations

Fabric selection should consider the intended working environment, garment construction, required protective performance, colour options and laundering requirements. JOY can support material evaluation by providing available fabric specifications and relevant technical documentation.
